Horror smash near Lightwater kills three
THREE people died following a tragic road traffic collision on the A322 Lightwater bypass on Monday (August 31).
Surrey Police is appealing for witnesses following the incident in which a silver Ford Focus was travelling along the bypass towards the M3 motorway at around 4.15pm, when it crossed the central reservation and collided with a black Peugeot 307 and a grey Fiat Cinquecento, both heading towards Guildford on the opposite carriageway.
Three people sustained fatal injuries as a result of the smash.
The driver of the Ford, a 27-year-old woman from London, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her only passenger, a two-year-old girl, was taken to Frimley Park Hospital with serious injuries. She has since been transferred to paediatric intensive care at Southampton General Hospital, where she is undergoing surgery.
The driver of the Peugeot, a 59-year-old man from London, was also pronounced dead at the scene. The rear-seat passenger, a woman in her 50s from Woking, was flown by air ambulance to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, but died shortly after her arrival. The front-seat passenger, a 58-year-old woman from London, remains in intensive care at Frimley Park Hospital.
The driver of the Fiat, a 63-year-old man from Woking, was taken to Frimley Park Hospital with minor injuries and has since been discharged.
As a result of the collision the A322 was closed in both directions until around 10pm.
Anyone who saw the collision, or the events leading up to it, is asked to call the Surrey Police Collision Investigation Unit on 01483 639922.

The driver of the Peugeot was my cousin, Keith Langley.
Can someone tell me why there is no crash barrier between the carriageways at the point of the crash? Surely, the safety issues are paramount. There will a be planning engineer/team who are writhing with guilt by association.
I concur with David Nolan's comments. Will someone at the council please, please, please do something about a crash barrier before another family has to face such a tragic loss. David Nolan's sister and Keith Langley's cousin.
I agree with Kathy and David there needs to be a crash barrier. Also it will stop frustrated idiots in traffic jams from turning round over the central reservation and pulling out in front of traffic, Ive seen this happen many times and its very dangerous.
Also traffic lights are needed at the M3 end of the road to control the long queues.
