flood.jpgSurrey Heath Borough Council has been awarded a £30,000 grant from Defra in an attempt to solve the ongoing flooding issues in Chobham and surrounding areas.

The council will use the money from Defra (Department for environment, food and rural affairs) to work closely with landowners to improve the current network of minor watercourses and to explore the possibilty of installing a new flood relief scheme.

Councillor Chris Rowbotham said: "I am delighted that the council has been able to obtain the funding from Defra to undertake this important study.

"Flooding is a recurring issue in Chobham and affects a good number of it's businesses and residents, this review aims to identify these problems and find a solution that will benefit everyone."

The grant money will be made available available in the new financial year, and any improvements deemed necessary will be made in line with the council's jurisdiction over minor watercourses, with the overall aim of reducing the flow of water through Chobham.
