Local businesses get expert advice at Woking event
Surrey businesses were given a kick-start to the New Year at a free consultation event in Woking on January 21.
Woking Ask The Experts (WATE) gave businesses from across the county the opportunity to receive expert advice gain valuable industry contacts.
Laura Holman, Economic Development Advisor for Woking Borough Council and Woking Town Centre Partnership was on hand to offer advice at the event, she said:
"Last year, businesses told us that they really needed support in a number of areas, which is why the Ask The Experts event was set up with four areas to help them find ways to reduce their overheads, grow their business, up-skill their people and keep it legal.
"By offering hands-on advice to business owners from experts in their field, WATE really delivered on its promise to kick start businesses with objective, practical advice to help move businesses forward in 2010."
The main attraction of the afternoon was the two dynamic presentations given by Robert Craven, one of the UK's most highly regarded public speakers on the subject of business growth and entrepreneurship.
Councillor Tina Liddington, Mayor of Woking attended the event and was particularly impressed by Robert Craven's performance, she said:
"The concept of this event is brilliant and I am so pleased to see so many businesses taking advantage of this unique opportunity to learn from each other.
"I was particularly inspired by Robert Craven's speech, which, in the current climate, combined with the practical solutions offered by the experts, will really give businesses the fresh motivation to take their businesses forward."
Local businesses were similarly impressed with the advice on offer. Nathalie Petit-Murphy, owner of Godalming based company HOZRO said:
"As a business looking to grow, I attended this event with the intention of gathering information to build a network of support and resources to help us on our way. I found the variety of experts on hand particularly helpful and the advice available useful to me on three levels: immediately, in six months' time and in the future. Sometimes just speaking to someone can open up new opportunities and this event has given me many."
Given the positive reaction to WATE, it is expected that the event will be run on an annual basis. For more information please visit www.wokingasktheexperts.co.uk
