flood.jpgSurrey Heath Borough Council has been awarded a £30,000 grant from Defra in an attempt to solve the ongoing flooding issues in Chobham and surrounding areas.

The council will use the money from Defra (Department for environment, food and rural affairs) to work closely with landowners to improve the current network of minor watercourses and to explore the possibilty of installing a new flood relief scheme.

A 29-year-old man who had to be talked down from a roof in Woking has admitted throwing tiles and a kitchen knife into the street below.

Daniel Mason, who lives in Dartmouth Avenue, Sheerwater, was charged with possession of a bladed article, using threatening words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress, and causing criminal damage.

Woking flat is damaged by fire

FIREFIGHTERS spent more than four hours tackling a blaze which ravaged a block of flats in Horsell on Monday.

Crews from Woking and Guildford were called just before 11am to Pares Close, where residents were already outside their homes, helplessly watching the flames.

Phase three of an extensive programme intended to "significantly improve" the Shoppers' Car Parks in Woking Town Centre gets underway from Monday March 9.

The programme, which is being carried out in phases over a period of four years, will bring the three town centre parking facilities up to the same high standard as Victoria Way Car Park.

The blaze is thought to have started under the stairs at the property just before 5pm, and quickly spread through the semi detached house, destroying the ground floor and a garage.

The information appeared in The Times on January 7 along with 171 other council's actions, and showed Woking summoned 1,693 households to court, and sent Bailiffs to houses 771 times to collect tax.
