Explorer Scouts visited Woking district's own campsite for their second camp of the year on February 28. The scouts, aged between 14 and 18, played games and trained for expeditions in the summer.

Explorer commissioner for Woking, Brian Pinto, said: "On arrival at the site on Saturday the explorers were divided into teams, and they set about planning the evening's entertainment. This included designing and constructing a four metre stage and covered seated areas around a campfire using traditional pioneering poles and lashing."

The thriving Woking Area University of the Third Age held an enrolment day on August 11 to start the new year, offering monthly meetings from next month and courses ranging from poetry to jazz appreciation.

The non-profit organisation, known as U3A, is open to anyone no longer in full time employment and is not a true university, with no exams and little homework.

The fun will step up for children in Goldsworth Park and Horsell under plans to upgrade playground equipment in two areas.

Woking Council is undertaking improvements in Goldsworth Park recreation ground and Queen Elizabeth Gardens, Horsell, in the fourth round of a scheme to improve play areas in the borough.
